Archbishop O'Sullivan Catholic School demonstrates Faith in Action by helping a family that was sponsored by St. Paul the Apostle Church. The Maree family arrived in Kingston earlier this year and it was a great opportunity for students and staff to help out. Students held fundraisers such as spirit days, aluminum can drive, family movie night, Easter basket raffle (organized by Mrs. Ottenhof's Grade 4/5 class), the Free the Children student group made recycled ornaments and sold at Advent Mass, Mrs. Proderick's Grade 6 class organized a used book sale.
Students raised $2,000 for the Maree family and the cheque was presented to Hussein, the eldest son of the Maree family at an assembly on April 15. Hussein connected with students by sharing his family's story and students had the opportunity to ask him questions about his personal experiences.
The money that was raised is going to cover the cost of school over the summer for the family.
