Students showcase robotics work

students working on a computerOur Lady of Mercy Catholic School  has been doing a lot over the past year to introduce students to coding and programming, and had the opportunity to showcase their hard work to the community.  These skills are rapidly becoming recognized for their importance as future employability skills, as well as for their excellent connections to mathematics learning, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) project-based learning, student inquiry and innovation and problem solving.

Last year the school was approved for a grant to purchase Lego robotics materials and have been using them to introduce the basics of coding to students in every class, kindergarten to Grade 8.

During Catholic Education Week, Our Lady of Mercy held a one hour open house to showcase their coding and robotics.
