Registration Now Open for Aspiring Catholic Leadership Parts 1 & 2

The Aspiring Catholic Leadership Development Program is a two-part program for ALCDSB staff that supports student achievement and well-being by fostering the growth of passionate and skilled leaders in our Catholic learning communities and across our system. ​​ 

Developed and led by current ALCDSB system leaders, the Aspiring Catholic Leadership courses are for aspiring school and system leaders. Each program consists of six modules, offered between October and May and are designed to support you in your professional and personal leadership journey.   
 
The leadership development of all staff is an integral part of the ALCDSB Multi-Year Strategic Plan. 
 
A leadership pathway has been developed for every academic position of additional responsibility at ALCDSB and can be found on the website. As indicated on the pathway, Aspiring Catholic Leadership Parts 1 and 2 are desired assets for many leadership positions at ALCDSB.

Aspiring Catholic Leadership Parts 1 and 2 will begin in October 2024.

A commitment to all module dates is imperative and participants in each course will produce a leadership artifact (detailed in each course) for successful completion.  

Part 1 of Aspiring Catholic Leadership 
The Aspiring Catholic Leadership Program, Part 1, provides an opportunity for future school and system leaders to grow their leadership capacity through discussion, reflection, and discernment of their own leadership potential. Participants will reflect on vision, values, influence, and motivation within the context of Catholic education and leadership at ALCDSB through an exploration of the Personal Leadership Resources from the Ontario Catholic School-Level Leadership Framework.  

Session 1: Introduction to the Ontario Catholic Leadership Framework and the Personal Leadership Resources  

Session 2: Social Personal Leadership Resources: Perceiving Emotions, Managing Emotions, & Acting in Emotionally Appropriate Ways  

Session 3: Psychological Personal Leadership Resources: Being PROS (Pro-active, Resilient, Optimistic, Self-efficacious) as a Catholic leader  

Session 4: Psychological Personal Leadership Resources: Building Cultures of Resiliency  

Session 5: Cognitive Personal Leadership Resources: Roll-Specific Knowledge and Problem-Solving Expertise  

Session 6: Cognitive Personal Leadership Resources: Systems Thinking.

Part 2 of Aspiring Catholic Leadership 
The Aspiring Catholic Leadership Program, Part 2, builds on foundational principles of leadership as explored in Part 1. In Part 2, course participants will focus on the on the Core Leadership Capacities that empower the School-Level Leadership practices in the Ontario Catholic Leadership Framework:  

Session 1: Setting Goals - ensuring that goals are strategic, specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-bound (SMART) and lead to improved teaching and learning.  

Session 2: Aligning Resources with Priorities - ensuring that financial, capital, human resources, curriculum and teaching resources, professional learning resources and program allocations are tied to strategic priorities.  

Session 3: Promoting Collaborative Learning Culture - enabling schools, school communities and districts to work together and learn from each other with a central focus on improved teaching quality and student achievement and well-being.  

Session 4: Using Data - leading and engaging school teams in gathering and analyzing provincial, district, school, and classroom data to identify trends, strengths and weaknesses that will inform specific actions for improvement.  

Session 5: Engaging in Courageous Conversations - challenging current practices and fostering innovation through conversation, to listen and to act on feedback, and to provide feedback that will lead to improvements in student achievement and well-being.  

Session 6: Consolidation of Learning – Catholic Leadership at ALCDSB Sessions will incorporate guiding questions, case studies, reflection, and both large and small group discussion.  

Participants will produce an artifact in the form of a school-based leadership project to be developed and completed in their home school.
