On May 24, 2024 the annual Grades 7-8 ALCDSB East Math Tournament took place at St. Francis of Assisi C.S.
Special thanks to principal Chris Gencarelli, Amy Cuthbert, and James Gowdy, the head caretaker for supporting the math tournament. It would not be the great success it was without the invaluable help as chief marker and chief judge, Mrs. Jennifer Johnston and the other Panther mathletes.
Besides the competing all day in a variety of problem-solving rounds, they learned about the amazing things mathletes are doing with their problem-solving skills in different careers including our very own mathlete graduates Dr. Anton Toutov and Dr. Hannah Broekhoven.
Top Mathletes at this year’s Grades 7-8 ALCDSB East Tournament were:
1st place – Nolan Mazur (St. Teresa of Calcutta)
2nd place – Lilian Misner (St. Teresa of Calcutta)
3rd place – Maya Kim (St. Martha)
4th place – Logan Rorabeck (Archbishop O’Sullivan)
5th place – Jena Choi (St. Teresa of Calcutta)
Sixth place went to Yiqiao Li (St. Thomas More)
Seventh place tie went to Rowan Pearce (St. John XXIII) and Chioma Egbunomu (Ecole Cathedrale)
First place team was St. Teresa of Calcutta Team B (81.33 pts): Gracie Gibson, Jena Choi, Everly Posadowski, Maria Arroyo-Lopez, Nolan Mazur, Lilian Misner, Mr. Nathan Compeau
Second Place team was St. Teresa of Calcutta Team A with 77 points: Peter Hanlon, Wesley Smith, Seth Matthew, Nolan Davis, Alex Castro, Jesse Hookey, coach Mr. Nathan Compeau
Third place team was St. John XXIII (Team #16) with 74.67 pts: Kika Paiva, Nolan Richardson, Rowan Pearce, Noah DaCosta, Oliver Muise, Michael Nichols, coach Mr. Christian Webster
Most improved team from last year’s tournament was Archbishop O’Sullivan (team #7): Bailey McCabe, Zoe De Jonge, Laura Munday, Dexton Primeau, Logan Rorabeck, Owen Jenkins
