Board Submits Budget

June 24, 2019

ALCDSB LogoThe Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board approved an operating budget of $156.2 million and a capital budget of $11.3 million for the 2019-20 school year at a Special Board Meeting held June 24, 2019.

The budgeted deficit of $958,500 reflects the challenges faced by school boards across Ontario due to changes in funding and class sizes. The Board deficit is within compliance per requirements included in the Education Act.  The Board of Trustees is committed to meeting the needs of the students within the confines of the provincial funding model, and has committed to eliminating the deficit within two years.

The budget aligns with the Board's Strategic Plan and the Ministry of Education's goals which include achieving excellence, ensuring equity, promoting Well-Being and enhancing public confidence.

"While school boards across the province are having to make do with fewer resources, we are committed to providing a variety of learning opportunities and course options so our students can achieve academic success and personal growth," said Terry Shea, Chair of the Board.

"As in every budget, our students are our first priority. We are confident that with this budget, we will continue to provide the best possible learning environment and personal growth options for all students in our Catholic schools."

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board serves over 11,000 elementary and secondary students, over 1,300 full-time equivalent staff and covers a geographical area of more than 16,000 square kilometres.
