Incoming Student Trustee Elected for 2017/2018 School Year

Incoming and outgoing student trusteesThe Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is pleased to welcome the incoming Student Trustee for the 2017/2018 school year. Jacqueline van Herpt (pictured right) of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School, Kingston has been elected to represent the board's student population.

The Student Trustee makes a significant contribution to the school board, representing all elementary and secondary students in the system. The Student Trustee attends monthly Committee and Board Meetings and other committees throughout the school year. The Student Trustee is also part of the Ontario Student Trustees' Association, which is the voice of students across Ontario. The Student Trustee also acts as the head of student senate, which is made up of Student Council representatives from each of the Board's five secondary schools. It is the Student Trustee's responsibility to inform the senate of issues affecting students of the board, to gather student opinions in order to fulfill his/her job as their representative and to allow each student council to share their events and ideas with each other.

At Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School, Jacqueline is in grade 11 and is an active member of Holy Cross athletics, playing field hockey, volleyball, soccer and hockey. As the Student Trustee, Jacqueline is excited to work on various board-wide initiatives, such as mental health and wellness and diversity and inclusion.

George Hinin (pictured above, left) is serving as the Student Trustee for the 2016/2017 school year. He is currently completing his final year at Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School.

Jacqueline van Herpt will be officially sworn in as the Student Trustee for the 2017/2018 school year at the June 20, 2017 Board Meeting.
