John Gerretsen Youth Leadership Award

Picture of John GerretsenThrough his compassionate and courageous leadership as a member of Provincial Parliament, and Mayor and City Councillor for the City of Kingston, John Gerretsen has devoted his career to enabling positive change, and to advocating for citizens, young and old, throughout our community and province. In recognition of his long time commitment and stellar service to Kingston and the Islands, the John Gerretsen Youth Leadership Award has been established with the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area to support the leadership development of students in Grades 9 – 12 who would like to further develop their leadership skills.

 

The John Gerretsen Youth Leadership Award aims to support young leaders as they strive to develop their potential: to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and leadership style; to set worthy personal goals; and to develop the confidence, resilience, motivation, and skills to bring these goals to fruition.  Growing their leadership skills may include developing their ability to create and utilize support networks, to guide others on an effective course of action, and to influence the opinions and behaviors of others to fully participate in community life and effect positive social change.
